Tim's 25th Annual SAG Award Picks

Award Season roles on tonight with the 25th Annual SAG Awards LIVE from the Shrine Auditorium here in Los Angeles, hosted by one of my favorite people, Megan Mullally!

Tonight's award winners usually help give us an idea of the top contenders to win the Oscar in a few weeks. The "Best Picture" category here does leave it up for some questions though as it's for best cast, not best picture.  There is some really stiff competition tonight and I can't wait to see who wins. Here are my picks for this year's SAG Awards.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role

“Black Panther”

This may come as a surprise that I am picking Black Panther in this category. The other film I could see come in and take this would be Crazy Rich Asians. Where this category is for an entire cast, it's different than selecting Best Picture for the Golden Globes or Oscars. Of all of the nominess, Black Panther had the most outstanding full cast performance in my opinion.

Darren Criss, “Assassination of Gianni Versace”

 

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries:

Patricia Arquette, “Escape at Dannemora”

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series:

Sterling K. Brown, “This Is Us”

Great category! I could see just about anybody win this, but other then Sterling K. Brown, I could see Jason Bateman as a winner here. 

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series:

Sandra Oh, “Killing Eve”

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series:

Bill Hader, “Barry”

I'm kind of surprised by Hader's Golden Globe loss. I'm expecting to see the Emmy Winner pick up a SAG here. 

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series:

Rachel Brosnahan, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

This category is owned by Rachel Brosnahan at this point. It would be a shock if anybody else was to win. 

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series:

“This Is Us” 

I could see the cast of Ozark take this too. That show is highly underated and deserves some love. 

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series:

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”

Some of the best TV is in this category and is possibly the stiffest competition tonight. I would be surprised to see anybody knock out The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel though. 

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Comedy or Drama Series:

“Marvel’s: Daredevil”

Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture:

“Avengers: Infinity War”

The SAG Awards will be LIVE at 5PM EST on TBS & TNT. Tune in!

2019 Oscar Nominations [Complete List]

The 2019 Oscar Nominations are finally here! Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross announced this years nominees LIVE from the The Academy in Beverly Hills.

Just my two cents, but why are Kumail and Tracee not hosting the Oscars this year? These two were excellent and funny hosting the nominations. Maybe I'm just getting older, but this was the first time I've seen almost every film nominated for Best Documentary before the Oscar Nominations. Congrats to all of those nominated. An Evening with Stephen Colbert coming to Paley Fest 2019

Paley Fest Los Angeles 2019 is right around the corner and we couldn't be more excited! As the schedule gets released we will have continual updates, but one of the first announcements has us excited as could be! An Evening with Stephen Colbert!

An Evening with Stephen Colbert will take place on March 16, 2019 at The Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Tickets go on sale January 15th. These will go fast. Don't miss it!

Tim's 76th Annual Golden Globe Picks

Award Season is officialy here as the Golden Globes kick off tonight, hosted by Andy Samberg and Sandra Oh!

As usual, I kick things off with my predictions for who I think will win this year's awards. VICE leads the film pack with 6 nominations this year, and "The Asssasination Gianni Versaci" leads the TV pack with 5 nominations. But will they walk away with the most wins, only time will tell. As the nominees arrive on the Red Carpet just down the street from us at The Beverly Hilton, sit back and enjoy my picks. Don't miss the Golden Globes on NBC at 8PM/5PM PT. Enjoy!

Best Motion Picture – Drama

“If Beale Street Could Talk”

First pick, and I'm most likely wrong. This will probably go to "A Star is Born", even though if "Beale Street Could Talk" is a far superior film. Honestly, I feel like "A Star is Born" is the weakest in this category, but for some reason people love it. 

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama

Lady Gaga - “A Star Is Born”

Such a great group of actresses, McCarthy could be a surpise winner here, but Gaga should have this award locked down. As much as I didn't care for "A Star is Born", Gaga's performance was the one saving grace of this film. Don't forget she is also a previous Globe winner for "American Horor Story". 

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama

Rami Malek - “Bohemian Rhapsody”

Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

“VICE"

Don't count out "Green Book" here. I loved the film and I think it's right up the HFPA alley, but "VICE" leads the nominations for a reason. 

Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Olivia Colman - “The Favourite”

Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy

Christian Bale - “Vice”

Best Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Amy Adams - “Vice”

Don't count out Emma Stone for "The Favourite" here. While this is a tight race, I think it's a battle between Stone and Adams. 

Best Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Mahershala Ali - “Green Book”

Such an incredible group of perfomances from great actors. Mahershala should see another Golden Globe win here, but this is a category ripe for possible surprises. 

Best Motion Picture – Animated

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”

I mean, is there really any question here?

Ok, so maybe this is some personal bias as most of you know I'm a big fan of Adam McKay, but the Oscar winner and multiple Golden Globe nominee is a HFPA favorite. However, the HFPA also loves obscurity and films that aren't quite in the norm, so don't be surprised to see "The Favourite" sneak in with a win here.

This song as taken the charts by storm! I can't see any possible way it doesn't win.

I would love to see "Barry" take this home, and I would really love to see one of my absolute favorites "The Good Place" get a win, but "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" is a powerhouse favorite of the HFPA and after their Emmy success, I think they are the favorite to win.

I would LOVE to see Kristen Bell take this home for "The Good Place", but I think Rachel Bresnahan will continue her award success.
