The Simpsons meet Adventure Time

The Simpsons kicked of Season 28 in style last night with an Adventure Time inspired couch gag!

While there is no word of any Simpsons/Adventure Time mashup episode, it was a lot of fun to see our favorite Springfield residents appropriately given Adventure Time personas. Adventure Time creator Pendleton Ward also makes a brief cameo in the couch gag as he sings about Bart the Human and a Dog named Homer.

We loved seeing Mr. Burns as the Ice King, Maggie as Princess Bubblegum riding Santa's Little Helper as Lady Rainicorn, and Smithers as Tree Trunks, but we want to know what your favorite mashup character was during the couch gag.

Episode 80 - The Levinson Brothers

LISTEN TO THE EPISODE ON ITUNES HERE

On today's episode, I have comedy writer and filmmaker, Joel Levinson!

Joel and Stephen Levinson

Joel is part of the comedy writing and production team, The Levinson Brothers, with his brother Stephen. Stephen is best known for his work as a writer on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon & Comedy Central, and Joel has also made appearances on The Tonight Show, The New York Times, and released multiple comedy albums with Stephen.

I talked with Joel about the film they are currently working on called, "Boy Band: The Heartthrob Story". Boy Band is a musical comedy that follows 90's boy band who was huge 17 years ago, but now that they're fat, balding and less "boyish", they're still trying to have their next hit album. The kickstarter has just 4 days left, and they are trying to raise the final $1000 to get the film made! The film has an incredible and hilarious cast, starring: Steve Agee (New Girl, Guardians of the Galaxy 2), Jordan Carlos (The Nightly Show), Seth Herzog (The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon) and Dave Hill (@midnight, Comedy Central).

Aside from the film, I also talked with Joel about growing up with comedy and music, early musical comedy inspirations, how they got started in making films, writing their comedy albums with Rob Kutner (Conan The Daily Show), filmmaking in their hometown and more.

Joel and Stephen following their TedX Talk

Huge thanks to Joel for taking the time to talk with me tonight about "Boy Band: A Heartthrob Story", as well as his and Stephen's career. A big thanks to Stephen as well for helping set this up. Stephen was planning to be on the show as well but had some family matters to attend to. Make sure to go donate to the Kickstarter for the film and be a part of this hilarious new comedy. Follow The Levison Brothers on all of the links below, and also make sure to check out their comedy albums that we have listed. They're fantastic! We can't wait to see this new film.

Thanks, Stephen & Joel!

Enjoy the episode!

I first met Mike several years ago at Meltdown Comics in Los Angeles and have always wanted to have him on the show. Mike was nice enough to join us at our hotel in Los Angeles to record this episode. We were planning to record this episode at UCB, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, we had to quickly change to our hotel room.

In the episode, we talked to Mike about growing up in California, discovering Weird Al as a kid, writing comedy songs, creating Hard n' Phirm with Chris Hardwick, performing and recording with Weird Al, drinking at Chucky Cheese, being a dad and raising his kids, writing new music, being the one-man band on the Nerdist TV show, and so much more.

Tim's 68th Emmy Award Picks

The 68th Annual Emmy Awards take place tonight, which means it's time to make my annual picks on who I think will take home this year's Emmy Awards!

Last week we saw the Technical and Art Emmys take place, and we were incredibly excited to see one of our favorite shows, @midnight take home their second Emmy! We were also thrilled to see Amy Poehler take home her first Emmy, which was long overdue, to say the least.

Jimmy Kimmel hosts the Emmys tonight from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles. We are big fans of Jimmy Kimmel and were just at his show last week with last year's Emmy host, Andy Samberg. We are really looking forward to seeing what Jimmy has in store for this year's show.

Watch the 68th Emmy Awards TONIGHT at 5PM PST/8PM EST on ABC, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Without further adieu, here are this year's picks:

DRAMA SERIES

Game of Thrones

After leaving fans hanging at the end of Season 5, Game of Thrones came back with a vengeance in Season 6. Despite the incredible season, don't be surprised if you see one of my favorite, Mr. Robot, sneak in with the upset.

COMEDY SERIES

Black-ish

LEAD ACTOR, DRAMA

Rami Malek, Mr. Robot

I wouldn't be surprised to see Bob Odenkirk or Matthew Rhys take home the Emmy this year, but Rami Malek has been absolutely captivating in Mr. Robot and I think this is finally his year.

LEAD ACTOR, COMEDY

Jeffrey Tambor, Transparent

Jeffery Tambor's performance in Transparent is absolutely incredible and groundbreaking! Tambor has grabbed plenty of awards for his role, and I don't think this year's Emmys will be an exception. We could see Anthony Anderson sneak in here for Black-ish, but Tambor should have this locked down. I must say though, I would love to see Thomas Middleditch or Aziz Ansari take this home. Their time will come!

LEAD ACTRESS, DRAMA

Keri Russell, The Americans

There are so many great nominees in this category! I think Keri Russell has this one in the bag, but don't count out Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black. She could easily be the upset here!

LEAD ACTRESS, COMEDY

Ellie Kemper, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This is going to be Ellie Kemper's year! This Emmy is a long time coming for the Kimmy Schmidt star, and after a hilarious second season, I think she finally will bring home the Emmy. As usual though, don't count out the brilliance of Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Veep.

Supporting ACTOR, DRAMA

Jonathan Banks, Better Call Saul

I've always loved Jonathan Banks and have been rooting for him to take home this Emmy for a while. After 4 Emmy Nominations, three for his role as Mike in Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad, this has to finally be his year.

Supporting ACTOR, COMEDY

Titus Burgess, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

This category is very tightly contested. I could really see Louie Anderson take this home for his incredible performance in Baskets. I would also love to see Matt Walsh or Keegan-Michael Key take this Emmy home.

Supporting ACTRESS, DRAMA

Emilia Clarke, Game of Thrones

So many episodes of Game of Thrones ended this year with powerful performances from Emilia Clarke. Maisie Williams and Lena Headey also had incredible performances, but none quite as strong as Clarke. This is her third Emmy nomination for Game of Thrones and I think this is finally her year.

Supporting ACTRESS, COMEDY

Judith Light, Transparent

While Jeffery Tambor's performance was amazing by itself, so much can also be attributed to the incredible supporting role from Judith Light. Don't count out previous Emmy Winner Allison Janney for Mom. She could easily win again. I must say, I would love to see Kate McKinnon take this home for SNL. Her time will come though.

LIMITED SERIES

The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story

TELEVISION MOVIE

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride

LEAD ACTOR, TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES

Bryan Cranston, All the Way

Don't count out Courtney B. Vance for The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. It's a tight race between these two.

LEAD ACTRESS, TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES

Sarah Paulson, The People v. O.J. Simpson

Supporting Actor, TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES

Sterling K. Brown, The People v. O.J. Simpson

supporting ACTRESS, TV MOVIE/LIMITED SERIES

Jean Smart, Fargo

VARIETY SERIES

The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and The Late Late Show with James Corden are both very close contenders for this Emmy. I could see either one of them upsetting The Tonight Show, but I think Fallon and company have this one in the bag.

VARIETY SKETCH SERIES

Documentary Now

Writing, Comedy SERIES

Master of None

writing, Drama SERIES

Mr. Robot

REALITY SERIES
