Tim's 78th Annual Golden Globe Picks

The 2021 Award Season is here! While it may feel strange to be celebrating awards in the middle of a pandemic, this altered version of the award show must go on! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return to host the 78th Annual Golden Globes LIVE from opposite coasts Tina in NYC and Amy at the Beverly Hilton. Tina and Amy are two of my favorite hosts and I can't wait to see what they have in store!

Much like the 2020 Emmy's, winners and nominees will not be in attendance at the show and there will not be a red carpet. I almost didn't bother making my predictions for this year's show, but I need some sense of normalcy right now so I decided to continue with the tradition of making my predictions. I always feel like the Golden Globes are the hardest to predict because the Hollywood Foreign Press likes to throw us curveballs every year. With that being said, here are my picks for this year's Golden Globes.

Best Motion Picture — Drama

"Nomadland"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Drama

Carey Mulligan, "Promising Young Woman"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama

Riz Ahmed, "Sound of Metal"

Don't count out Chadwick Boseman for a posthumous win, but I think Riz has a lot                                     of the hype behind him and the HFPA loves Amazon.

Best Motion Picture — Drama

"Borat Subsequent Moveifilm"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy

Maria Bakalova, "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy

Sacha Baron Cohen, "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm"

Best Motion Picture — Animated

"Soul"

Best Motion Picture — Foreign Language

"Minari"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Olivia Coleman, "The Father"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture

Daniel Kaluuya, "Judas the the Black Messiah"

Best Director — Motion Picture

Regina King, "One Night in Miami..."

  • Best Screenplay — Motion Picture

  • Aaron Sorkin, "The Trial of the Chicago 7"

Best Original Score — Motion Picture

  • Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, "Mank"

Best Original Song — Motion Picture

  • "Tigress & Tweed," Raphael Saadiq, Andra Day - "The United States Vs. Billie Holiday"

Best Television Series — Drama

"The Crown"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Drama

Olivia Coleman, "The Crown"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Drama

Jason Bateman, "Ozark"

Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy

"Schitt's Creek"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy

Catherine O'Hara, "Schitt's Creek"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series — Musical or Comedy

Jason Sudeikis, "Ted Lasso"

I can't believe I'm picking against Eugene Levy. He was brilliant and should win. But                                 Sudeikis I think will win over the HFPA

Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

"The Queen's Gambit"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Anya Taylor-Joy, "The Queen's Gambit"

Best Performance by an Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Bryan Cranston, "Your Honor"

Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Supporting Role

Annie Murphy, "Schitt's Creek"

Jason's current film BJ's Mobile Gift Shop is part of this year's Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program. I absolutely loved this film and wanted to talk to Jason about the film and about his filmmaking career.
