'Maynard' Documentary coming to iTunes and Digital

A few months back I had the honor of speaking with Sam Pollard, Director of the intriguing documentary, 'Maynard'.

The documntary follows the story of Maynard Jackson Jr. who became Atlanta's first black mayor in 1973. Maynard Jackson's story is one that everybody needs to see and hear.

I wasn't familiar with Maynard until watching the documentary in preparation for speaking with Sam. The film is incredible. I was honestly sad that it took me this far into life to be able to learn Maynard's story. I would highly encourage everybody to take the time to watch this film and learn from such an incredible hero. Maynard Jackson was not just a political hero, but human hero as well. This is a film you will not want to miss. And now that it's going to be on digital platforms, you don't have an excuse to not watch it.

'Maynard' arrives on iTunes and Digital platforms on Tuesday, July 3rd.

Episode 130 - AT&T Shape at Warner Brothers

LISTEN TO THE EPISODE ON ITUNES HERE

[NSFW WARNING: EXPLICIT CONTENT]

On today's episode, Austin Grant and I sit down and recap our time at the AT&T Shape event at Warner Brothers.

Austin was only able to attend part of the first day as he had to head back to Salt Lake City to star in a movie. We talked about what we were able to do at the event while Austin was there, as well as the parts Austin missed out on. We had great panels with some of the filmmakers behind Ready Player One, panels with Issa Rae & P. Diddy, and incredible tech displays highlighting new science and technology in film. We also covered part of a second event I attended back at CBS with Rod Rodenburry, son of Star Trek creator Gene Rodenburry, and Executive Producer of Star Trek: Discovery.

This episode also started a new podcasting experience for us. Since Meltdown closed at the end of March, we've been without regular spot to record the podcast. We bounce back and forth between my place and Austin's, but we thought it would be fun to record at interesting spots around Los Angeles. After hearing about the Los Feliz Murder House on an episode of My Favorite Murder, we decided to check it out since it was right up the street from my place. After checking out the creepy house, we decided to record the episode there.

We have a few other locations in mind that we will be recording at, but if you have a spot you want us to check out on a future episode, let us know!

Thanks for having us AT&T and Warner Brothers!

Enjoy the episode.

On today's episode, I talked with comedian Jonathan Giles!

Jonathan Giles

Jonathan and I first met doing an open mic at the Nerdist Showroom only to find out that we were actually working together there as well. Austin Grant joined us on this episode as we got to know more about Jonathan and his career.

We talked with Jonathan about how he started comedy in Chicago, moving to Los Angeles, being a part of NBC's Late Night Writers Program, reminiscing over some of our favorite NerdMelt memories, a lot of riffs, and so much more.
