On today's episode I have the founder of SHORTS and presenter of the Oscar Nominated Short Films program, Carter Pilcher!

Carter Pilcher

SHORTS is celebrating their 20th Anniversary this year, and prior to SHORTS presenting the Oscar nominated short film screenings, there was no way for the general public to view the nominated short films. Since the series was launched, it has become a massive hit, selling out theaters across the country before the nominees are even announced.

On top of celebrating 20 years of SHORTS, I also had Carter on the show to talk about an issue at hand as two of the nominated filmmakers are currently not allowed to travel to the US for the ceremony due to the fact that they are from Iran. Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani, the filmmakers behind "In the Shadow of the Cypress" have struggled to obtain Visas from the State Department.

I talked with Carter about how SHORTS came about, the demand around the world for the program, the impact short films have on the viewing communities, and how all of us can try and help make it possible for Hossein and Shirin from "In the Shadow of the Cypress" to attend the Oscars and celebrate their incredible achievement.

A huge Thank You to Carter for taking the time to join me. Please follow SHORTS on all of the links below, and most importantly, please click on the links below to contact your Congressional representatives and Senators and encourage them to allow the Hossein and Shirin to attend the ceremony.

Thank You, Carter!

Episode 223 - Loïc Espuche

On today's episode I have Oscar nominated filmmaker, Loïc Espuche!

Loïc Espuche

Loïc's animated short film "YUCK!" is nominated in this year's Academy Awards. This is such a sweet film following a group of kids on vacation seeing all of the adults around them showing affection and kissing. Of course, kissing is gross to kids, so they all squirm and of course exclaim, "YUCK!".

I talked with Loïc about how the film came about, how he got into animation, what inspired the film, working with his girlfriend who produced the film, find the work relationship balance, the unique animation styles to the film, attending the Oscars, and so much more.

Official Trailer for YUCK!

A huge Thank You to Loïc for taking the time to join me on the podcast to talk about "YUCK!". Check out the ShortsTV link below to get your tickets to see "YUCK!" and all of the other Oscar nominated short films in theaters. You can also follow Loïc on Instagram as well!

Thanks, Loïc!

Enjoy the episode!

Shudder releases trailer for "Clown in a Cornfield"!

Over the past month I've been hearing some rumblings around the horror community about a new Shudder film called "Clown in a Cornfield". The film comes to us from Director Eli Craig, who also directed one of my personal favorite horror comedies, "Tucker and Dale vs Evil", as well as producers behind "Smile"!

Based on the novel from Adam Cesare, "Clown in a Cornfield" follows a struggling town who celebrates the success of local company Baypen Brand Corn Syrup and their loveable clown mascot Frendo. And of course, everybody is a friend of Frendo, right? This film looks like so much fun, and I cannot wait to watch Frendo on the big screen. "Clown in a Cornfield" hits theaters May 9, 2025.

Jurassic World: Rebirth Trailer is here!

Since I was a kid, I have always been obsessed with the Jurassic Park movies. Yes, I know some aren't as good as others. Trust me, the internet makes sure I know that any time I mention my love for these films. Let people like what they like. For me, it's one of the first movies that gave me a sense of wonder and made me want to be a filmmaker. Every time a new Jurassic Park or now, Jurassic World movie comes out, that childlike wonder is reignited all over again. Today Universal Pictures released the trailer for the newest installment in the Jurassic World franchise, "Jurassic World: Rebirth"!

Having a new Jurassic World movie taking us into the summer just adds another huge summer blockbuster to the theaters, offering a very nice boost to theaters this summer.

"Jurassic World: Rebirth" hits theaters July 2, 2025. Check out the trailer below!

First look at "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" trailer

As much as people want to talk about superhero movie fatigue, with some of the new trailers releasing I think those fatigued movie goers are in for a revitalization. The new trailer for Marvel's "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" hit today, and I couldn't be more excited for this new attempt at a Fantastic Four film.

One of my biggest takeaways from this new trailer is that I finally feel like we have some balance in the characters. The Fantastic Four films I've felt a real lack of that, and this one seems to have that just from the trailer. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film.

"The Fantastic Four: First Steps" hits theaters July 25, 2025. Check out the trailer below!
