Tim's 2014 SAG Award Picks

Time for another award show! This week between the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards has been filled with so much great entertainment. We had the Oscar Nominations released on Thursday, as well as The Sundance Film Festival kicking off in Park City, Utah. I'm currently writing my picks from the Wasatch Brew Pub in Park City where we have kicked off our Sundance experience filming interviews for X96. We've had a great time so far meeting a lot of great filmmakers and attending some great parties. We will post more about Sundance later this week.

Now lets get to to my SAG Awards picks! There is so much great talent nominated, and I can't wait to see who wins. My Golden Globes picks did well, lets see if my SAG picks do a little bit better. Enjoy!

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role
MATTHEW McCONAUGHEY  for “DALLAS BUYERS CLUB”

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role
CATE BLANCHETT  for  “BLUE JASMINE”
*I picked Sandra Bullock during the Golden Globes thinking that was how the Hollywood Foreign Press would vote. Honestly, in this list I don't think that she's the best. So I'm sticking with my gut this time. I could also see Emma Thompson win for Saving Mr. Banks.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role
JARED LETO  for “DALLAS BUYERS CLUB”

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role
JENNIFER LAWRENCE for  “AMERICAN HUSTLE”
*The only other contender I really see in this category is Lupita NYong'O for 12 Years A Slave

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
AMERICAN HUSTLE
*This is hard to pick. I feel like best film is 12 Years A Slave, but this is best performance by a cast in a motion picture. Taking away the story, the art, and all of the aesthetics of filmmaking and purely basing this performance by a cast, I have to pick American Hustle.
Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
MICHAEL DOUGLAS for “BEHIND THE CANDELABRA”

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries
ELISABETH MOSS for “TOP OF THE LAKE”

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series
BRYAN CRANSTON for “BREAKING BAD”

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series
ANNA GUNN  for “BREAKING BAD”
*This is actually a pretty strong category. I think Claire Danes are Kerry Washington are both great contenders. However, after Anna Gunn's Emmy WIn for the role, I feel Anna Gunn is really the top contender this year for the SAG Awards. She was brilliant in the final season of Breaking Bad.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series
JIM PARSONS for “THE BIG BANG THEORY”
*Another really strong category. I think Ty Burrell is a big contender here as well as Don Cheadle,  but overall performance I think Jim Parsons wins. Interesting changes in this category compared to the Golden Globes last Sunday.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series
TINA FEY for “30 ROCK”
*This has been the hardest category to pick so far. Every one of the women nominated for this award is an incredible actress. I keep hoping to see Mayim Bialik win an award for her role as Amy on The Big Bang Theory, but I feel this category is a little too strong for her to get a win this year.

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series
BREAKING BAD

Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series
MODERN FAMILY

It's time now to tune into the 20th SAG Awards! Tune on on TBS or TNT starting at 8PM ET/5PM PT.
Congrats to all of the nominees this year!
As I continue to work on our new show The Job Interview, I look forward to joining SAG this coming year and being part of the festivities next year. Enjoy the show! I'll be watching it here at Sundance. Stay tuned for upcoming reviews, pictures, and videos from Sundance this year.

Tim's 2014 Golden Globe Awards Picks

Awards season is officially here! This is one of my favorite times of the year. There have been so many great films, incredible TV shows, and amazing acting performances this past year. I've been looking forward to the Golden Globes this year mainly to watch Tina Fey and Amy Pohler host the show again.   They were absolutely brilliant last year!

Making my award show picks has started to become a tradition for my sites, so I knew we had to do it again this year. Without further adieu, here are my picks for the 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards.

Best Motion Picture, Drama

12 Years A Slave

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama

Sandra Bullock, Gravity

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama

Matthew McConaughey, Dallas Buyers Club

I could also see this go to Chiwetel Ejiofor for 12 Years A Slave, but I think McConaughey nailed it this year.

Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

American Hustle

Sadly I haven't had a chance to see "Her" yet. I've heard a lot of great things about it, but I can't pick it without seeing it.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

Amy Adams, American Hustle

Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy

Oscar Isaac, Inside Llweyn Davis

Tough category! Bale could easily win, and so could DiCaprio. However, I think Oscar Isaac was incredible in this film and he deserves the award.

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

Jared Leto, Dallas Buyers Club

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle

Best Animated Feature

Frozen

Best Foreign Language Film

Blue is the Warmest Color

Taking a stab in the dark here since this was the only film in this category that I was able to see.

Best Director, Motion Picture

Alfonso Cuaron, Gravity

Best Screenplay, Motion Picture

Spike Jonze, Her

Best Original Score, Motion Picture

Alex Ebert, All is Lost

Best Original Song, Motion Picture

Let It Go, Frozen

Best TV Series, Drama

Breaking Bad

Best Actress in a TV Series, Drama

Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife

Best Actor in a TV Series, Drama

Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad

Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy

Modern Family

Brooklyn Nine-Nine, really? I like the show, but there are so many better shows that should have been nominated over Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Veep

Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy

Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory

This category should have been a lot stronger than it was. All of them are great actors, but there were a lot of better performances than those that were nominated.

Best TV Movie or Mini-Series

Behind the Candelabra

Best Actress in a TV Movie or Mini-Series

Elisabeth Moss, Top of the Lake

Best Actor in a TV Movie or Mini-Series

Michael Douglas, Behind the Candelabra

Best Supporting Actress in a TV Movie or Mini-Series

Jacqueline Bissett

I honestly have no idea. The only one of these actress I have watched in the shows they are nominated for is Sofia Vergara, and it's not going to be her. I've heard buzz around Bissett, so that's why I've made the pick.

Best Supporting Actor in a TV Movie or Mini-Series

Aaron Paul, Breaking Bad

Well, there are my picks! Lets see how I do this year. I will have more picks later this week for the SAG Awards.

10 Reason Why I Won't Lose Weight Next Year

As we creep up on the New Year, I've already started thinking about what special New Years Resolution I need to write down this year, that I will give up on by February 2nd. This is much harder then I imagined. So far on my list I have:

-Be more awesome (not humanly possible, although I'm sure I can make a run at the Awesome Guy of the Year Award again this year. 28 years running! I know I've got my vote!)

-Clip my toe nails. (The keep getting snagged in the shag carpet in my lounge. However, I can now perch from any tree in my back yard and just hang for hours)

-Start wearing underwear (still up for debate)

There is one item I won't be putting on my list this year though. That item is losing weight. It's a nice thought and all, but lets face it, it isn't going to happen. Let me state my case as to why:

10: I'm lazy. I probably didn't need to explain that, but it still is on the list.

9: I enjoy my sleep. Why would I ever want to get up extra early, just so I can put my body through an extraneous work out when I could just be home asleep? That's a no brainer, if you ask me.

8: Oreos. Oh, how I love Oreos! I love dipping those tasty cookies into some milk. Sometimes, I take them apart and scrape the white filling off with my teeth. Other times, I sit there licking it off, like a cow on a salt lick. Oreos are so incredible.

7: The TV. My loyal companion the television. What makes for a better Saturday night than a tub of Karamel Sutra and some SNL? Plus, I just bought a bunch of Futurama on DVD. That is hours and hours of great entertainment. I won't have to move for weeks!

6: The Gym Membership Card. I mean come on, do I really want to be one of those guys? One of those guys that is so cool, because his membership card dangles from his key ring and everybody knows he works out. Yes, actually, I really do. However, being a fat dude, people see the membership card dangle and all they really think is, "oh cute, he thinks he's a gym guy."

5: Netflix. Oh, thank God I have Netflix now! The tedious days of walking across the street to the local Red Box are done. That was just useless exercise I was being forced to do for movies. Now I don't even have to move from the pre-creased spot on the couch and just stream endless movies! Thank God for Netflix!

4: The Work Out attire. Again, fat guy in work out attire. Not the best look for anybody. I try to look good at all times, and this doesn't fall in to that "looking good at all times" for me. Work out clothes for men are not very complimentary when you look like your 3 months past due.

3: They still sell popcorn and massive sodas at the movies. Until popcorn and soda cease to exist at movie theaters, I will be there buying it. Nothing makes a movie better then some popcorn and a Coke.  You can even pour some M&M's in the hot popcorn! I'm pretty sure that's how most people make it through a Tyler Perry movie. If it wasn't for their popcorn and soda, they will have killed themselves 10 minutes into it.

2: The Snuggie. Just another reason for me to continue to be lazy. Seriously, why would I get up to go to the gym, or even get ready for the day, when I have the comfort of a Snuggie? Plus, it came with this awesome book light, so now I can see the numbers on my remote easier at night. You just clip it to the top of your remote, and you have hours of coziness wrapped in your Snuggie. If I do have to get up and go out, I'm pretty sure that as long as I tie the back up it passes for appropriate attire at Walmart.

1: The number 1 spot. This spot would have normally been reserved for the Twinkie. Due to horrible events around the world though, my beloved Twinkie is no more. I now have to find some other type of cream filled pastry to replace the wonderful Twinkie. Something sweet and tasty. Maybe another creme filled pastry to fill the Twinkie shaped hole in my soul. It seems impossible to do. In my small, irregular beating, clogged heart, there is nothing greater than the Twinkie.

May you Rest in Peace my little golden friend.

I have decided his successor will be, The Moon Pie. While it may not be the Twinkie, it still is absolutely delicious and will just have to do.

Nothing quite like a chocolaty, crunchy, sweet Moon Pie!

Well, I think my list proves me right. I won't be losing any weight this year. There are just too many great things to do around my house and around my food. Many times around the food in my house. People should really expect everybody to pack on the pounds during the holidays. When I say say pack on the pounds, I'm not meaning just a few extra pounds. I'm meaning poundage in the weight of a new appendage. My neighbors go door to door handing out homemade Pound Cake. It says it in the name! Pound Cake! Yeah, there is no way I am losing weight this year.

I guess it's time to put away this silly list, seeing as it's useless. Time to kick back and watch some Futurama! I've got my Pound Cake and Karamel Sutra by my side, and I am wrapped tight in my Snuggie. Now this is living life!

Do they still sell chamber pots? I could use one of those by the couch too.

While my resolutions are already dying, I hope all of you have better luck on your New Years Resolutions.
