Tim's 78th Annual Golden Globe Picks

 The 2021 Award Season is here! While it may feel strange to be celebrating awards in the middle of a pandemic, this altered version of the award show must go on! Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return to host the 78th Annual Golden Globes LIVE from opposite coasts Tina in NYC and Amy at the Beverly Hilton. Tina and Amy are two of my favorite hosts and I can't wait to see what they have in store!

Much like the 2020 Emmy's, winners and nominees will not be in attendance at the show and there will not be a red carpet. I almost didn't bother making my predictions for this year's show, but I need some sense of normalcy right now so I decided to continue with the tradition of making my predictions. I always feel like the Golden Globes are the hardest to predict because the Hollywood Foreign Press likes to throw us curveballs every year. With that being said, here are my picks for this year's Golden Globes.

                                 Don't count out Chadwick Boseman for a posthumous win, but I think Riz has a lot                                     of the hype behind him and the HFPA loves Amazon.

Episode 180 - So that was 2020...

After an unintended 9 month hiatus, the podcast is back!

I don't need to sit here and tell you what an insane year this has been. We've all just experienced it together. However, I didn't expect it to affect the podcast the way that it did. Between a few COVID scares, quarantines, depression, anxiety, a small move, and creating making a quarantined web series, the past 9 months consumed me in the best and worst ways. The podcast finally launched on Spotify a few months ago, and I was overwhelmed to see the new downloads and listeners. Thank you for listening and making part of 2020 a little better for me. 

I decided to take a few minutes at the end of this year to talk a little about where the podcast has been and in a way deliver a "State of the Podcast" address. New episodes start releasing next week, starting with Simon Chong from Bob's Burgers. I also talked about a few changes coming to the format of the podcast.

This year has been wild and we have no idea what 2021 has in store. All we can do is try to do good by each other, do our part to help everybody get through this, and make the best out of a bad situation. It will take all of us, but we can get back to life in the new normal.

With so many of these conventions being cancelled, this is the primary means of income for these artists and vendors and we wanted to help spread the word of how you can still support them. Today's episode the podcast is back from it's medically induced coma!

As you may have noticed my Oscar coverage was cut short this year and there hasn't been a new episode since. Unfortunately as my Oscar coverage was under way, I ended up getting sick and had to cancel the remaining interviews. This led to canceling the remainder of February episodes as well. By the time I was ready to get back into the swing of things, we were locked down. 

On this episode I talked about the past two crazy months, the wild ride of losing hearing in my left ear for almost a month, accidentally hanging up on an Oscar nominee while in a drugged up state, getting through quarantine, Simpsons binging, and more. 

I hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy. Please stay home if you don't have to go out, and if you do have to go out, make sure to practice social distancing. Wash your hands, don't touch your face, and support local businesses. THANK YOU, I can't say it enough, but THANK YOU to all of the people on the front lines of this. To all of the healthcare workers, doctors, grocery store clerks, restaurants, and delivery services for taking care of all of us. We couldn't do this without you. Tim's 92nd Oscars Picks

The 92nd Oscars are finally here!

Over the years we've recorded an episode of the podcast making our picks, but this year I decided to go a different route and simply do my picks the way I do all of the other show. I hope you have enjoyed my Oscars Week coverage this year talking with so many great filmmakers in the two-part coverage. A lot of categories tonight I see as 1917 vs. Parasite. “1917”

1917 absolutely blew me away in every aspect. The other film I see as a tight contender is of course Parasite. However, 1917 won the Producers Guild Award and that's usually a good sign of who is going to win.

Laura Dern

I've seen a few Oscar voters mention voting for Margot Robbie in this category, but Laura Dern has carried the entire award season with her wins for Marriage Story and I don't see any reason why that stops tonight. 

Director

Sam Mendes, “1917”

Don't count out Bong Joon Ho for “Parasite”. Mendes won the Directors Guild Award and I would expect to see him carry that through for an Oscar Win. 

Animated Feature

“Missing Link” 

Going into award season I thought for sure that Toy Story 4 was a lock, but Missing Link has proven to be the front runner.

Animated Short

"Hair Love"

This was honestly my favorite category this year. I spoke with most of the nominees here and every one of these films is brilliant. I think this category is between "Hair Love" and "Kitbull" as they were the most widely seen in this category. However, if I was a voting member of The Academy my vote would got to "Dcera" aka "Daughter" from Daria Kashcheeva. Aside from it's brilliant cinematography, Daria had to create a new way to animate on top of the stop motion of her film. I would love to see "Daughter" sneak in for the win. 

Adapted Screenplay

“Jojo Rabbit” 

I've been such a huge fan of Taika Waititi for years and I really can't wait to see him take home the Oscar for one of my absolute favorite films of the year. 

Original Screenplay

“Parasite”

Don't count Tarantino out on this just yet, but this is a good spot for Bong Joon-Ho to get his personal Oscar, not to mention he also won the WGA Award just last week. 

Cinematography

“1917,” Roger Deakins

Best Documentary Feature

“American Factory” - Julia Rieichert, Steven Bognar

Best Documentary Short Subject

“Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)” - Carol Dysinger

I could see St. Louis Superman possibly sneak in here, but I think "Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You're a Girl)" should have it on lock. 

Best Live Action Short Film

“The Neighbors’ Window”

This is Marshall Curry's fourth Oscar Nomination and I think this is the year he finally brings it home. 

Best International Feature Film

“Parasite”

Ford vs. Ferrari could be a dark horse hear, but Parasite is definitely the front runner and I can't see any reason they don't take home the Oscar.
