10 Contender Remain in the Visual Effects Oscar Race


The Oscar race continues to heat up with the nomination announcements just a month away, on January 15th.


The Visual Effects category has been narrowed down to the Top 10 contenders. Here are the films that are still in the running for a nomination.

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier”
    “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes”
    “Godzilla”
    “Guardians of the Galaxy”
    “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies”
    “Interstellar”
    “Maleficent”
    “Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb”
    “Transformers: Age of Extinction”
    “X-Men: Days of Future Past”

The Academy's Visual Effects Executive Committee will now determine the shortlist of films. The Branch will view 10 minute excerpts of each of the shortlisted films on January 10, 2015. Following the screening, the members will vote to nominate five films for the final Oscar consideration.
